Need help from our resident skinning "experten"!!!

Post by (A/229) BBall on Sun 28 Dec 2014 - 4:49

Howdy gents!

I need help badly (I know....not news to those of you that know me, but I'm not talking about "that" kind of help).

To make a short story long, I've decided to completely re-do my YouTube video tribute to the unbelievably brave aircrews that flew in operation "Lam Son 719". Partly because we now have better stuff to do it with (for instance, when I filmed it way back when, the door gunners were still in the "I'm along for the ride" mode...they didn't engage), and partly because the idiots at YouTube have (twice now) completely muted the second part due to some moronic "infringement rights" B.S. concerning the music I inserted. (yes, I did engage their attorneys, SWORE ON A STACK OF BIBLES that I owned all of the music legally, and in the end it didn't matter....they're knuckleheads).

With that said. I've decided on several changes, not least of which is replacing the F-5s used in the CAS scenes to some good 'ol, by-God, Phantoms from those amazing folks at McDonnell Douglas. The problem (as we all know) is that the sim offers all sorts of countries flying the F-4E EXCEPT the USAF/USN/USMC!

No problem...right? Just download some skins from Al Gore's internet, and "viola'!...case closed.

Not so fast.

I've tried everything this feeble grey matter can think of (which ain't much), and I still get this...

and this...

and this...

My question is...."HOW THE FORK DO I GET RID OF THE LUFTWAFFE MARKINGS?"

Here's his "readme":

"F4-E Updated skin pack  Version 2;  By CrazyEddie

This pack contains a number of skins for various Air Forces using the very old and quite poor F4 model in DCS World which
only has 2 skins allocated in the edm file.
This Mod adds a number of new and improved skins to the game, the old model is still the same, sorry.
In order for this to work I suggest you remove the existing 'af stanadard' livery file in the f4-e liveries section of
Bazar/Liveries/f4-e.
If you fail to remove that there is a chance that every skin that you load will show up as the default skin.

To Instal:
Insert all of the new Liveries to the f4-e Livery File
Insert all of the new Pilot skins into the Temp Textures File in Bazar
If you want the F4's for UK, Germany, Turkey and Spain to show up in those countries you will have to add this line in the country
sections of  Scripts/Database/db_countires.lua - here is the line of code you will need:
cnt_unit( units.Planes.Plane, "F-4E");
Within each Livery pack there are 2 files, a .bmp file which was my working texture file and .dds copy of that same file.
The game works better with .dds files, use those in prference to the .bmp files."

Suggestions?

Help?

Bueller?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Il have a look into it BBall, im assuming its just a lua setting and you just need to turn off some "switches" - wait out !! ( also its important to remove that file he talks about.)

Here you go my brutha!

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/669059/

I've tried doing it with and without the file he talks about...no change. I've also looked over the .lua files ad nauseum, and I have no ide why the old skin marking still show (my only "work around" right now is to use the "Sunsetters" Navy skin and the Israeli Phantom. It puts the "star of David" exactly in the big white star of the Navy paint job...not great, but better than nothing.

thanks for all your help!!!!

cheers

way cool....thanks again!

BTW...that last screenshot above is HIS not mine. Which brings up the question, how does one have the F-4E available to put in the mission under the "UK" drop down list for countries? Whenever I choose a country like "UK" (under any type of mission), it only offers the "stock" airframes for than country....C-130, GR4 Tornado, etc.... No option for a Phantom.

yep i see that, i have all the skins working as per his instructions, but i dont get an F4 for the countries, still looking, but he does explain in his instructions to add If you want the F4's for UK, Germany, Turkey and Spain to show up in those countries you will have to add this line in the country
sections of  Scripts/Database/db_countires.lua - here is the line of code you will need:
cnt_unit( units.Planes.Plane, "F-4E");
--- read this to mean for the US, Australia etc etc etc as well.

BBall found the prob, any way without explaining, here is the mod, - please get rid of all your F4-e mod files out of your game from the mod you worked with - ive put it into GME format here >>>

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1768wa7g2d7ypd0/F4-E%20Mod.7z?dl=0

so all you have to do is drop it into GME-

heres a pic from a mission i just made in ME these planes are in US, Australia , Spain, Germany, UK

just another point too, if you use the "DCS Weapons Mod and F4-E, remove that, there may also be a conflict with that, il talk to Highway and we will sort it out and incorporate the mods.

I might know how to tweak that Smile

Nope...tried to get it to do that, but it kept running like a little French school girl over to a runway!

It's just going to be used as a "cut scene" in the video, so no real issues with it not wanting to do the catapult thing.
