My "Mig Alley" Movie...

Post by (A/229) BBall on Sun 1 Feb 2015 - 3:00

Greetings gents!

Still off work status, giving me LOTS of time to:

1) bug the crap outta "Mrs. BBall" (poor woman)
2) work around the hacienda (ugh)
3) fly flight sims (sh*t yeah!)

(I'm still mostly doing it with one eye covered, so I'm POSTIVIE I'd be more dangerous flying with you guys, then just doing it SP. The vision IS improving, and when it gets back to normal, I'll be back online... 'till then... Very Happy )

I'm really getting excited about the Mig 15 release, and can't wait until we can get some "proper" Mig Alley type flying (an actual Korean Map and/or objects would help...hint, hint...DCS and/or anyone else...lol). One of our LAN members here in the MSP area is a HUGE "Mig Alley" fan, so I cobbled together a little :20 movie and titled it "Mig Alley 2015".

Here are a few screenies from the video (I know, they're crappy shots, but I just paused the movie and took a still...sue me):

A couple thoughts:

- I know, I know, my gunnery sucks balls. So what? Again, sue me. That crazy little A-4 gun-sight that's SUPPOSED to be radar controlled doesn't seem to be....lol. Go figure (a feature, not a bug...right?).

- Music aficionados will protest that the tunes used were NOT from the year 1952, but from later in the decade. I'm sorry, but that early 50s music sucked (Doris Day? Come on MAN!) I think the music I chose is awesome... (The Platters, Nat King Cole, etc)

- I did USE LABELS (on and off) during the dogfights...otherwise  you would NEVER see those little bastard Mig 15s! I edited them out of the movie, so it looks like I'm just a stud fighter pilot.

All in all, fun as hell to make. IMHO, it'll be fun X10 when they get us a proper map, and we are able to do some COOP flying against (and with) those Commie Mig 15s!

Here's the DropBox link (remember, rather large files, so you might let it buffer for a bit...):

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81611212/Mig%20Alley%202015.mp4

Oh, and if you missed it, the DB link to my remake of the "Lam Son 719" movie:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81611212/New%20Lam%20Son%20719a.mp4

AND...an "oldie but goodie"...several of us from the LAN group (and some old "Frugalsworld" folks) got together six years ago, and made this from the "legacy" IL-2 Sturmovik sim to send to the REAL "Hell Hawks" (365th FG) guys for one of their reunions. The skins were made by one of our members (Doc), and reflect ACTUAL airframes that the unit flew. I'm not sure what the old dudes thought of it, for I sent shots of my HOTAS setup, computer rig, TrackIR, etc....it was probably a bit much for their 80-something brains to handle...lol.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81611212/HELL%20HAWKS%20MOVIE.wmv (not sure why, but when I click on this link, it downloads as apposed to just showing the video...sorry)

I hope you enjoy the vids...

later,

Link to MiG alley doesn't seem to load up? Been 10 mins and still waiting?
Looking fwd to watching it.

One thing (that made sense) that my wife said to me after she stopped flying - (went into non-ops management),
that the only regret she had leaving flying was not knowing her last flight was her last flight.

I sincerely hope your last flight - when ever that may be is on your own terms and enjoyed to the fullest!!
Hope you get well soon and back in the office....gotta have that drink at Jetlags with ya.

Thanks my friend.

We WILL INDEED have that beer in the JetLag someday...you can count on it.

AFA the friggin videos. Hell, I have no idea why they won't show. Between DropBox and YouTube, it's enough to make a guy start drinking!!!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

If you get it sorted out (seems to work fine for me), let me know. Until then, I'm back to working on my latest blog entry (about my first flight as a Captain, and my first solo flight in 1973... www.bubba757.com ...).

Worked this time - must of had a slow connection.
Enjoyed it.

Typical airline pilot though  Very Happy  - 50 mile straight in approach!
What about a 400 KT Initial and Pitch?

Loved the hold off.

Thanks guys!

The videos are fun as hell to make, but trying to get the A/I to do what you want (or need) can make a sane man go mad...lol. The wingmen won't keep up, the enemy won't fight like they're supposed to ( Laughing ), and DCS (unlike the old IL-2) will slow to a slideshow if you place too many static and/or moving items on an airfield. I remember taking hours to place things like maintenance ladders and ammo boxes next to static Jugs and Lightnings when making a mission...if you tried that in DCS, you'd be VERY disappointed in the FPS.

I might try putting this one up on "the Tube", just to see of those asshats will mute it...lol.

Samri...yeah, that "last flight" thing. Again, the eyesight seems to be straightening itself out, so it looks like I'll be back poking holes in the skies fairly soon (thank God...me thinks the "Mrs" might be putting a divorce lawyer on retainer soon... Laughing ). I once flew with a 747 Captain whose next trip would be his "retirement flight". The company had it all set up (the fire engines to spray the jet, the party in the gate when he returned, etc). The dude was known as one of "those guys" (a real piece of work)....he ended up calling sick for his last trip! I laughed till I almost cried...

Thanks again for the kind words guys...can't wait to get back online with you all!
