1 hit, everybody dead.

Fellas, I don't have high hopes of finding the reason of my problem, but as we are the best of the best, here I go.
In all my last combat missions with the huey, a single shot or two at my chopper (from APC's or AAA)was sufficient to instantly kill everybody inside it. I know I'm not supposed to let them shoot at me but heck..
Frustration is growing.. A wonderful idea someone?

I havent upgraded to .604 yet and as for the AAA, buggered if i know !! just route plan better and keep out of fire ?? sorry not much help on the technical geeky aspects.

Large Cal rounds detonating in the cockpit will generally kill everyone.

Hey NeF...UH-1's weren't design to prevent casualties during combat. The aircraft itself did stand up well under fire but occupants usually didn't fare well. Pilots use to sit on there flack jackets instead of wearing them to prevent a round up the wazzu. Like Strut mentioned above, proper route planning is key to survival in the UH-1. Use of intelligence reports was crucial in your planning. We did a lot of tactical training, such as NOE or low level flight, as a method of surviving in hostile territories. In DCS world the tree's don't offer much protection but in the real world, they are your best friend. I would like to get to a point where we can start using proper tactical movement when flying our missions. It's an evolutionary process and I believe we'll get there. It's more fun to hide and peek around corners when tasked as a scout for the gun ships and when we get the AH-1, we'll start learning those techniques.

Hey flyer, thanks for the answer. I understand and agree with all of the above. The problem is that these last days I have never experienced such high loss ratio since I started with this aircraft. In my worse missions I usually lost a couple of instruments and maybe a gunner or a pilot.. But there usually was at least a soul alive, at least a gunner.
Now it's "tic" and all lights are shut down.
Hope next update solves it or I'll have to repair or reinstall because it really looks like a bug to me.

Your probably right but until it's fixed (or not) we may have to send in a sacrifice to get an enemy position that we can plan to avoid. The one thing that I do like about this problem is that it makes you think tactically...you can no longer silhouette yourself against the skyline...got to get in the trees. Six and Xtra have a pretty clear definition for NOE and low level flight tactics in our new SOP guidelines. We plan to start training according to that manual so start reviewing it everybody.

The Huey was developed as a MEDEVAC, and utility helicopter and the concept of Air assault was hardly a thought when the Huey was being designed, thus the requirement for an aircraft to meet that mission nonexistence. Like most aircraft of the area the lack of power resulted in them being very lightly armored This resulted in over 40% of the helicopters deployed to Vietnam being destroyed. Tactics played a large role in this, but that is a topic for another day. Just like Flyer and Strut said route is everything. .50 cal and above are helicopter killers! In Vietnam jets were called in to take care of .50cals, only if they were not available were helicopters sent in to take them out. Even modern helicopters with large amount armor avoid .50cals. If we avoid .50cals guess what we think about large Cal AA cannons?
