Operation Blackout folks: I've created an extra PNG for Gizzy's kneeboard collection - 000013.PNG. It is a very basic list of who's who in the game, which I thought would be useful. I have uploaded it into the Officers Club file browser.

After reading many different versions of ops pdf's & commschatter from 2 different sources (132 badly need just ONE definitive OP Order or sub-order) hopefully here is our COMMS plan.  Stick it in your kneeboard.  Still cant find Ground & Twr freq but will get them in the briefing.. Yellow arrows are the freq pushes...

Install a load of 132 Mods with their own installer on top of 229th Mods on top of DCS updates and Terrains, 3 hours prep, 1 hrs briefing, 1 1/2 hours flying, 1 x refuel at FARP (which automatically re-arms?) , arrive at LZ, arms hot, 800’ above slicks, 2 x .50’s open up, dive in, Rockets fail to fire, switch to Guns, no guns, arm off / arm on toggle guns / rockets, nothing, repeat, no rockets, 1 short burst from guns then nothing... Nought.... Zero, shot down.

This is so simple, TMWH Thr flap cycles arm on / safe / off and a toggle cycles guns / rockets.   What can go wrong.... What a total waste of time.  Server even disabled tracks so cannot REPLAY to investigate.  Answers on a post card to ED.  Totally pee*d off, totally....

Re-Install DCS is the only way to get a clean DCS.... Mad

Thanks Razor - No, it took a while for calm to restore, thats for sure.  Couldn't even listen on as with craft down radios are off, exit server and everyone is talking at the same time without UR freq discrimination.

DCS virgin installed.

I'll not install any Mods unless it's JSGME, that way I can control things  - 132rd bespoke installer probably is OK but..... mixed in with our stuff....?

I had a poke around the devices and all USB devices were for some reason set to 'allow windows to turn off to save power etc....' hmmmmm Now this is the default but I could have sworn I had changed this before but maybe another system... maybe a long period of inactivity - just axes moved no toggles and W10--- no idea, but turned everyone off none the less in device manager and also the generic usb PM switch in W10 advanced power options.....

We'll see....

Post by (B/229) evilivan on Mon 6 Jun 2016 - 20:28

Well, I made to the end of the mission as the solo remaining Huey; Gizz as per above, Cib lost his main rotor, and Skullz had a major storm come over his home (I could hardly hear him over the sound of the hail on his roof...); fortunately all OK, but he did have some roof damage, and lost power.

I got an email from Reznik today thanking us for joining them and wanted me to pass that on.

If you want to give them feedback, they have their AAR system on the website. Gizz: breathe....

BTW Gizz, I don't think you were the only one to have problems - one of the planes also had some inoperative functions. Obviously no idea if that's related to your issues...

Have to say that I enjoyed it and would be up for it again - I will feedback that it would be nice to give the slicks more to do, but overall it was fun. Need to work on dead reckoning and map reading nav though Rolling Eyes

I thoroughly enjoyed it too. I feel for Gizzy as he has put a lot of effort into creating the kneeboards which where a great help (Thx Giz)
The concentration levels needed to be pretty high to keep up with things and next time we need to keep coms and navigation divided, poor Skullz must have been multi tasking like mad.
I landed on a particularly sticky piece of grass when we lost comms enroute back to the AO for pick up and lost my main rotor. I have it recorded and will post when I have time Smile

The LZ landing was my most enjoyable time but flying with you guys it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish
Definately up for more of this and happy doing what slicks do, ferry shit about Very Happy

@Gizzy, the way my PTT's on the warthog are messed up when on their server may be related to your problems Question

My take on things posted on 132.

Would I do it again, despite the outcome this time, certainly.... it's the future lads... or join the shoot the wotsit brigade... haha...

TIGER 3-2 Flown by Gizzy
Flight time: 90 minutes.
Status: Killed in action
Objectives Met.

Tactical
Consider having just one operational order, period. Update that one document only, with a datestamp reference and not spawn another. At one stage I was having to reference and compare 3 pdf's + other docs to ascertain a correct brief.

Design
Mission was good. Thank you, appreciated the effort and time.
Huey's by design require 2 pilots, 1 for map reading and comms & 1 fly.
OK you have cheat for AP but mountain valley flying creates big issues when heads down in the map or comms with no rolling map in cockpit as in A10 & Ka's. This was particularity difficult in formation flight unless you print and stitch a large scale map together, tape and plan on that and have it handy on knee.... Maybe tactically placed beacons for the way in might be an idea, its doable in DCS.

Admin
At the final moment TMWH toggle not functioning. Another Huey had issues with toggles as well. May be connected, maybe not, but 132 Mods available as JSGME inserted rather than external program would make me happier. Smile

Re: Invite to a MP event

Post by (HHC/229) Skullz on Tue 7 Jun 2016 - 10:14

My debrief of the MP mission:

I was very impressed with the depth of realism the 132nd Virtual Wing had as far as communications are concerned.  Initially I was concerned with the amount of time we needed to complete the mission, which was estimated to be approximately 3 hours. However, after I realized how many moving parts there were and tracking 3 different radios to keep the Huey flight synced there was absolutely no boredom. Especially when I realized we might be lost, I had to contact AWACS, again true realism at play, to get a vector to our next waypoint. As a side note, the server we flew on had disabled the F10 Map feature that shows your aircraft position; I'm told this was a surprise because in the practice session it was available. It turns out we were not far off and we were already headed in the right direction and finally landed at the FARP to re-fuel. After that the navigation was easier because we had a Ka-50 escort. Even so, I kept a keen eye on the map to track our location in case we lost our escort. I was never bored during the mission at all. In fact, we finally reached the LZs, landed, extracted the troops and returned to the holding area about 7 minutes from the OP area; at this point we lost Gizzy, our lone gunship due to enemy fire and technical difficulties. We were able to egress without further enemy fire and we landed to await extraction at the south holding point where we were all able to take a bathroom break and got back in the cockpit. At this point we realized we egressed back to the holding area along the wrong river, but we weren't too far off and we were able to fly toward the east, over a mountain range, and descend back into the correct valley to re-position before extraction which only took about 5 minutes; and that was done using the terrain features and the kneeboard map  Smile . I was surprised at how fast the order came to extract and actually missed the code word on the fox mike channel, thank goodness the rest of the flight heard the call. We took off and headed back, 3-5 minutes into our return, suddenly, I heard nearly deafening hail hitting my roof and window; I felt my bonus room vibrating and thought I bumped the volume on my computer and was feeling my aircraft, Seconds later my wife rushed upstairs and exclaimed, "Our roof just came off!" (Turns out it was only shingles missing, thank God.) I had to get on fox mike and let the JTAC know that I had an emergency at my house and had to sign off. Just as I was confirming we still had one Huey left, my power went out. Bummer, I was having a blast and felt we were participating in a historical event for 1st Cav. Anyway that's how my part ended, I'm thankful that Evilivan was able to complete our mission.

Meanwhile, here's what my house looked like after the storm subsided; it was either a small tornado or a micro burst but neither have been confirmed yet, sorry for a few being turned wrong but I'm in a hurry and don't have time to sort it out:

Lastly, during this MP mission I learned how bad I am at land navigation from the air using the knee board maps. It actually inspired me to practice navigation using only the kneeboard maps; I have found a website to get high quality maps of Georgia here:

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/onc/txu-pclmaps-oclc-8322829_f_4.jpg

I created three kneeboard maps of the the Krymsk area eastward toward Krasnodar and flew the Gazelle successfully from Krymsk to Krasnodar using only the areonatical maps I created on the knee board. It took me about 40 minutes flight time and it was very rewarding to fly in an area that I've never flown in before and be able to navigate using terrain features on a map. Granted this was really easy, I won't spoil it for those of you who might try yourself but once I found a great terrain feature to follow it was literally like driving to the city on a highway, hint. The next flight I make will be through a mountain range using on the kneeboard because I think that will be much more challenging.

Looks like you got away with it Skullz - although that debris does look to be worryingly close to your cars?

Ref: the Nav and F10 location (and kneeboard location) being turned off, it turns out that they publish that info in their SOPs for people coming to fly with them:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/daffcz1br65nm7e/132%20Multiplayer%20Instructions%20-%20External%20v1.4.pdf?dl=0

Lots of reading needed if you want to fly with the 132nd! Wink

Enjoyed it too, well up for another one.

I always fly without icons in sp. My favourite thing is vfr whatever I fly. Obviously we have adf systems in the huey and I for one would be in favour of having at least one server running just a map with no icons. Or at least have a few missions that require navigation in whatever form it takes.

Hi Skullz,

there was also a very high resolution (250+ MB in size) DCS map called "TC-1" around on the net, I guess it was actually the in game map itself in printable picture format. Of course if you want to fly rather on RL maps for even more immersion, that's another thing... Smile

On the same page as your Operational Navigational Charts I also found the full world coverage of Tactical Pilotage Charts (1:500 000). Maybe for the Huey range and speed it's even more useful?

The 132nd are extending an invite to the 229th to join them for the 14th installment of their Operation Georgian Thunder campaign on Sunday 8th Jan @1900z.

The mission includes an Air Assault into Sochi Adler airfield, so slicks and gunships are both required.

Please reply to this post or PM me if you are interested n joining. Note that UniversRadio is required to fly with the 132nd.
