Simple Radio 1.2.9.1

Post by (B/229) evilivan on Fri 11 Nov 2016 - 21:40

So... I'm still having problems with two radios transmitting at the same time; basically it behaves as if two people are speaking at the same time on one radio. It kind of takes away the point of having more than one radio..... silent

Are you guys experiencing this? If not, then I will need to debug my system; if so I will bug ciribob Wink

Same for me, 2 radios squelch each other when transmitting at the same time

@Painter isn't having the problem, and according to the below it is an inconsistent issue:

https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/issues/148

However, it does look like people are actively testing it for ciribob, so I guess we just monitor that thread and see what happens....

For me I find it to be a show stopper for SR.

Ciribob has asked if anyone can do these tests:

*************************************

As a first test you can do yourself:

could you just edit this line:

https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/blob/master/Scripts/DCS-SRSGameGUI.lua#L8

and change to false

and

https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/blob/master/Scripts/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone.lua#L21

and change to false

Then start a single player mission, jump in an aircraft , start 3 radios & connect to a server on all 3 and then try transmitting.

You should hear yourself 3 times over without distortion (hopefully) assuming all 3 radios are tuned to the same frequency.

This should prove that its not a mixing issue or some other hardware issue which'll help me narrow it down.

Second Test:

Log cpu + ram usage while 2 people transmit on the same frequency to a third user and see if you get distortion

Third Test:

Log cpu + ram usage while 2 people transmit on different frequencies to another user tuned into both frequencies

It's a big ask but would be extremely helpful, nothing obvious in the code still that explains why

********************************************

...following this testing regime:

**************************************************

Will link youtube with only sound.

The test you're about to watch was conducted as follows:

First test in mirage cokpit 3 players (1 listener who was recording) and me counting on vhf (first counter) once i get to 4-5 somewhere second player starts transmitting on UHF counting in the same manner.
Second test was conducted in the same manner except we were all in spectator using the overlay.

No spike in cpu use was detected.

You can clearly hear the distortions as we were counting over eachother and it completely dissapears once first counter is done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFloX438vzo&feature=youtu.be

**************************************************

That something we can help with?

Cheers

Question reg. 1.2.9.2.

Every time I launch SR, the "Speakers" window defaults to S/PDIF Pass-through device, so to hear anything I need to pull down the list and choose Speakers instead. But this setting doesn't get stored, when I quit then relaunch, S/PDIF comes up again. Any suggestion?

Hay Gents,

just a heads-up about ED forum: Simple Radio has yet another update (1.2.9.7), and Ciribob replied to my question about cross-distortion between different radio sets should be much better in this latest one. Dunno who used to refresh these things, just saying...

EDIT: he also said if we still have that problem, we should send him a short recording showing this artifact...

Yes, 1.2.9.7 seems stable. Been running it from release no issues.

daBomb looks after the SR server... hopefully he'll catch this Smile

Just in case anyone is having difficulty in setting up SR this repost from this from the DCS Forum may help (written by SR author)

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dedicated Support on Discord: https://discord.gg/baw7g3t

Please follow the list below (even if you've done it before!) so that everyone's hopefully got the same setup and should hopefully solve a lot of issues

1. Install the latest .NET https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=53345 - Even if you think you have it!

1.a If you're on Windows N edition (No media components installed) then install this - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3145500/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions (Likely just specific European versions)

2. Backup and then DELETE the Scripts folder in

C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS/
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/

3. Download the latest release ZIP from here: https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/releases/latest

4. EXTRACT the contents of the zip file to a folder

5. Run the installer as ADMINISTRATOR in the EXTRACTED folder

6. Verify that the Scripts folders in:

C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS/
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/

Has just these 5 files:

DCS-SRSGameGUI.lua
DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone.lua
DCS-SRS-OverlayGameGUI.lua
DCS-SRS-Overlay.dlg
Export.lua

AND

that the Export.lua has just this one line:

Code:

local dcsSr=require('lfs');dofile(dcsSr.writedir()..[[Scripts\DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone.lua]])
You can copy the files manually from the zip if they're missing.

7. Go to where SimpleRadio Standalone (SRS) Installed to: i.e C:\Program Files\DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone

8. Run the Client.exe as ADMINISTRATOR

9. Enter this address 5.189.162.17:5014 and hit connect. Say YES to any Firewall prompts!

10. Launch DCS, start a single player mission with a hot start aircraft

11. Open overlay, as long as the aircraft is hot start you should now see a frequency on the overlay

12. Whoop and shout, you have radio comms

IT STILL DOESNT WORK

Double check you've done all the steps in order above!

Remember that you wont get a frequency on the overlay until you're in an aircraft (spectators on multiplayer will also work) and connected to a server.

If you have an older CDU export or Tacview export it won't work either, but by following the steps above they'll be removed to work down the problem list.

1. Check that the windows firewall or antivirus is not blocking the Radio client or DCS Network

2. Double check that the export file has just the one line listed above in it and the 2 other lua files are in the same folder

Final Steps

If you're sure that everything is OK and you've followed the steps above 100% the same and verified the two points above then:

Post all the logs (DCS & 2 SRS ones) that you find in

C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS/Logs
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/Logs
C:/Users//Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/Logs

As well as your export.lua and a screenshot of your Scripts folder

Adding back in Helios / TacView

SRS should be fully compatible with any other Export script as long as the line

Code:

local dcsSr=require('lfs');dofile(dcsSr.writedir()..[[Scripts\DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone.lua]])
is at the bottom of your export script.

Once your radio is fully working and you start adding export scripts back in, make sure SRS is always at the end!

Hope this helps!

And it looks Ciribob really fixed the issue, incoming cross-talking on different radio sets now do not garble out each other, as before.

Klick to hear this test video: SR test cross-talking
