GELENDZHIK BASE ENHANCEMENT - YOUR VIEW SOUGHT

I was looking at some new objects available some kind russian guy made up for DCS... some are very good.

This got me thinking a little... The Open JUNGLE map is used quite a lot so...

Could Gelendzhik air base do with a make over...?

Sure it's eye candy, but how much does this add to the immersion factor, nice to see, interesting etc..?

There are downsides... these mods add about 100mb to the required mods file - it may impact FPS... for me on a reasonable PC with OC 980ti vsynched to 60, it stays at 60 solid - other systems may vary...

Below is a video showing what is available... I just put the objects on the runway for viewing.  I also put in a complex FARP - here my FPS drops to around 55 close hovering over it.

Best to view video in HD full screen..

So I ask is it worth tarting up Gelendzhik at bit..

  • use SIX & EXTRA's RL knowledge to keep it sort of reali'sh
  • put the complex FARP about 5km away so flights can practice coming in and out but keep any FPS drops away from the main airbase
  • for fun, put the blimb base a KM or to away as well with some hangers 'n stuff...



Dunno....

There's a fair bit of work involved so your opinion matters and is valued....

I get shot fps at our current airport. I vote to move lock stock and barrel to Batumi

Oh dear... Gelendhzik is pretty good on FPS... presuming this is running VR RIFT on the same rig you were using a while ago?

That alone negates any enhancement of any airbase really due to FPS on other systems... thats good.. saves me a ton of work Smile

As for moving to Batsumi I'll pass on that and leave any consideration to higher levels than me - although willing to do whatever I'm told, sort of .. Smile

In an ideal world we will be based in Normandy until the Caucasus gets its T4 upgrade. That will be my suggestion when it's available

I agree on basing in Normandy! We fly low, might as well fly on the map that has the most detail and collide-able trees!

Don't forget the tight LZ's, the ability to add destruction to the map objects via a slider. The new lighting effects, the new graphics options and throw in the fact that updates for 1.5 will consist of being able to add modules and campaigns and Normandy will be getting all the love. Plus Helicopters and Tiger tanks seem suited to one another Very Happy

Yes sounds good but as highlighted by your first response I reckon it'll probably be dictated by average community FPS.

Remember Nevada when it first came out, FPS for some was very low and no VR then..... When DCS eventually joins the maps together it won't matter we can swap at will... but that may be a while..

On the contrary, I get better FPS in Nevada with better graphical settings. The caucasus map is so shit performance wise. Anyway I will be packing away 1.5 as soon as I get Normandy

Sure better FPS now but not when Nevada was initially released... but it is all irrelevant anyway... FPS at the time will decide.

+1 leave base alone. The last thing we want is less frames in the place we spend the most time.

But, hell yes, those are cool objects. Get some farps done up in a proper layout, and from there start taking stuff back out until frames become manageable.

Put a blimp over a stadium or something. Distribute the objects over many areas instead of having a really cool and super detailed home base.

I realize that takes a lot of work, I'm not super pro-change. But if changes are coming, I think that would be the best way to do it.
