Huey pedal dimensions

Post by (A/229) Trip on Mon 8 May 2017 - 11:28

Hey guys!  For those with access to a real Huey I would love if you could help me out a little bit with this dimension, or if anyone has a link to a drawing:

Pedals: Height from floor to the actual pedal where your foot goes

Many, many thanks if anyone can provide this dimension

Sweet thanks Comanchero86! I wish I was close enough to attend the event you guys were talking about in MS. Too far away for me though, with today's gas prices.

@Comanchero86 One more thing. I asked in two places for confirmation the anti-torque pedals have force trim and in one place got a yes and the other got a no!

Can you confirm one way or the other? Or perhaps maybe later models do and earlier don't?

In Black and White:

TM-55, Chap 2 Sect V para 2-32.
(Copied Below)

2-32.  Force Trim System.  Force centering devices are incorporated in the cyclic controls and directional pedal controls.  These devices are installed between the cyclic stick and the hydraulic servo cylinders, and between the anti-torque pedals and the hydraulic servo cylinder. The devices furnish a force gradient or "feel’ to the cyclic control stick and anti-torque pedals.  A FORCE TRIM ON/OFF switch is installed on the miscellaneous control panel to turn the system on or off (Fig 2-6).  These forces can be reduced to zero by pressing and holding the force trim push-button switch on the cyclic stick grip or moving the force trim switch to OFF.

Thanks @Samri I was pretty sure I had read that somewhere but the person who told me it doesn't have it seemed pretty confident. Good to know!

Samri beat me to it. Both Cyclic and Anti Torque pedals use force rim.

Thanks for giving further confirmation @Comanchero .  Now to present this info to the other guy, who I'm pretty sure is a RL helicopter pilot also (but not Huey I think).

@Comanchero I've heard tell of pilots who don't use Force Trim as a matter of personal preference. Do you know, or know of any such pilots flying the Huey?

There was a bit of discussion on Force trim in another thread - link below:

This is a bit of a controversial subject here. But to answer your question to me...Very few of the pilots that I have flown with, and continue to fly with today, use force trim when flying the Huey. Most prefer to fly the Huey without force trim.

As promised, the Huey Pedal Dimensions. The 6 3/4" measurement was taken with the pedal at the 90 degree vertical position to the cockpit floor.

Gday guys, I was playing around with force trim the other day (BH212) I don't force trim very often as most of my work is short distance and vertical ref (long line). That being said I did have a long distance flight for a helicopter that is the other day. So I decided to use it for a change, Once you have the sweet spot you still need slight pressure to persuade attitude maintenance, and as conditions change you will need to reset the sweet spot. Overall it does lessen the required pressure to hold cyclic position and reduce fatigue. It also helps to maintain attitude when you heads down working the radios or GPS gear. On the 212 I haven't noticed any effect on the TR Peddles they seem to work the same if force trim is on or off. So I would say long distance straight and level as required short distance wouldn't bother or if you really do need it maybe gym membership is in order Wink

EDIT: So after dragging the Flight Safety manual and checking which I should have done first tisk tisk tisk, force trim is also applied to the peddles, I was not using them during the straight and level portion of the flight I didn't notice the resistance applied but Ill check it out next time.

Cheers

@Comanchero Many thanks sir! The response about not using force trim gives me a good reason to decide adding it to my sim is very low priority and the pedal dimensions give much more detail than I would have dared to ask for!

One more question @Comanchero: Do you guys still enable force trim as part of your startup and/or shutdown procedure?

@Gizzy Thank you for taking care of that, I'll have to check that other thread now.

Roger, I'll keep it on the list then too. I want to try to make sure I memorize the full real startup checklist, not an abbreviated one.
