Molevitch visit to Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare

Post by (D/229) Molevich on Sun 8 Oct 2017 - 21:24

Hello Chaps!

A couple of weeks ago on a Friday I bombed down to Weston to visit the Helicopter Museum. For those that do not know it, it is quite extraordinary. They have an amazing collection, from the smallest pedal driven autogyro to massive transport ships. Too many to mention, but they have a Vietnam era Huey and Loach, a Cold War era Mi24D, an Mi-8 VIP transport, endless amounts of Westland airframes etc.

So here for your viewing pleasure, is my collection of photos from that day. And yes the grey-haired twelve year old boy in the stripy top, sitting in both Mi-24 cockpits is myself. The museum gave me special access for photography for my sim-pit project. Smile

I was shown around by a very helpful fellow called Mark Service, an ex-crew chief on Chinnooks, who had loads of interesting info and history to offer. A really kind and helpful bunch there, well worth a visit if you are UK based or visiting.

Very nice mate, I am jealous. Maybe when I stop running a guest house I will have time to visit all these amazing aircraft museums. My son is off to https://www.nms.ac.uk/national-museum-of-flight/ next week as part of his college course. He is doing aviation engineering Very Happy

Hi Cib, I remember you saying about your son. I wish him best of luck. One of my best mate's sons, 15, is in air cadets and wants to fly RAF. He loves the flight sims too.

Thanks Chaps, glad you enjoying them. It was a really great day out, amazing collection. They could do with a bit more space....

Mole, This is a major find I spotted a Dragonfly, Scout, Wasp, Puma, Aloutte II, Hoplite, Hind, Hound, Hip, Lynx, Wessex and looks like a Kamov Ka-22. Hard to believe all those wonderful cabs are stored in a hanger in Somerset! Great images of the Hind!
