History of the 229th Aviation Battalion

Post by (HHC/229) Skullz on Thu 25 Jul 2013 - 6:13

Since North America group is officially the 229th AHB I thought I'd post a link to the history of the real unit.

Interesting read to say the least...

FlyingFrog came across this website that has the various company insignia listed. Eventually, I will have everyone assigned to a company and I want to get custom skins made so we can identify each other in the air by the door markings.

The skin maker of the original templates of MOH skin pack (Crandall and Freeman), USMC Vietnam and 2/17th, know as "Home Fries" on DCS forums, is already working on a new skin pack dedicated to the 229th Battalion which will include all company paint scheme and insignia as per the originals (skid colors on B, remove red marks on B, C and D, etc):

The guy is very nice, he said he was speeding up his project when he knew there was a demand.

Is there anyway we could talk Mr. Homefries into creating a couple of "Medevac" skins with the red cross on the helo? It would be cool to put in a couple of dedicated medevac slots on missions. That way anyone who is flying one is easily identified. Plus they just look cool and add to the overall "immersion" factor. What a Face

There are some dust-off skins on DCS for download. I'm not 100% sure but I think the medevacs belonged to a hospital unit.

Yea, if I'm not mistaken there was a medical detachment assigned to 1st Cav but the 229th didn't have dust-offs. I need to look into that further.

Hello,
Make sence  Skeeter.  As per this reference, there was specific medical detachment:
http://vietnam-hueys.tripod.com/Med%20Evac%20Hueys.htm

82th is included in the MOH Skin pack made by "Home Fries" which include 229th skins as well: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/346912/

57th "The Originals" skin made by "maker" :
